Marriott lounges are available at select Marriott properties. Many Executive and Concierge level lounges in the Marriott portfolio have been going through a rebranding to become M Clubs. This typically has slightly expanded and improved the amenities at each lounge.
What does M Club include?
In addition to a quiet space away from everything (and everyone) else, M Club spaces advertise 24/7 access, premium Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages. Snacks include the M Club “Mind Menu,” which features healthy, vitamin-rich foods intended to stimulate you mentally as well as nourish you physically. Moreover, in an effort to ensure the continued devotion of elite members, hotels with M Clubs guarantee their elite loyalty members will receive a free breakfast or an equivalent perk.
As with airport lounges, lounge amenities vary depending on location. Lounges in Asia and Europe are more likely to include free adult beverages, due to differences in hospitality standards in these regions. There’s no perfect way to learn the nuances of a lounge you haven’t yet visited, though Marriott does have an Insiders Forum where frequent travelers discuss tips, tricks and questions about lounges and more.
Where are M Clubs located?
These lounges, while expanding, are not available at every location you might venture to … yet. The Marriott website lists a total of 100 Marriott M Clubs: six in Asia, 12 in Europe and 82 in North America.
There is one super easy way to see if the location you’re visiting has an M Club. At the M Club website, scroll down to the regions and check the list, which is organized by location. Headed to New York state? You have five hotel options with M Clubs.
How can you get access to M Clubs?
To access these lounges, you need to be at least a Platinum or Titanium member of the Marriott Bonvoy program. Gain Platinum Elite status after 50 stays in a year; 75 stays will take you to Titanium Elite. If you’re truly on the road most of the year, 100 nights in a year and $20,000 in eligible spending with Marriott will bring you to the Ambassador Elite level.
However, if 50 Marriott stays isn’t in the books for you this year, you can also get elite status through a Marriott co-branded credit card. Your best bet for lounge access is the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card, which comes with automatic Gold elite status. That isn’t quite enough to get you into an M Club, but it can help you earn Platinum status if you spend $75,000 on eligible purchases in a calendar year. Terms apply.
That’s a hefty spend requirement to go along with an already hefty $450 annual fee. Terms apply. However, the card does usually come with a pretty good welcome offer that can kickstart your points-earning strategy. If you’re eager for status and lounge access, this card will get you there, with the points for additional free award nights to spare.
Some Marriott locations will allow you to get a room with lounge access even if you aren’t an elite member. For example, the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park has six room rate options that include M Club access.
24/7 might not mean what you think it does
Though Marriott advertises 24/7 M Club access, be wary of what this means practically. These lounges have historically been geared toward business “road warriors,” who often travel during the weekdays. As such, these business travelers with elite status haven’t always needed lounge access on the weekends. The “24/7” M Club may actually be closed or provide limited service on the weekends, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. This is highly location-dependent and can change at any time. While frequent travelers attempt to keep up-to-date lists, the best way to know the situation for the hotel you’re planning to visit is to call and ask.
Still, if you’re a fan of the lounge experience, M Club is the perfect entry point into ever-improving and expanding Marriott options.
